Your future is not defined – Be open to change.
I decided to explore this topic when looking at my own future and where I was headed. This year has been a year of transition for many people I know. I have had close family members move interstate and overseas and I, myself am moving towards a more creative career.
I think that the past few years have asked many to re-evaluate their lives and decide what is really important. Some have changed jobs, or decided to work from home. Some have moved to different cities and others have left unhappy relationships.
When we are young, we often grow up believing that life will unfold in a certain way. We plan to have a specific career or job and live in a place that we are comfortable with. But life is uncertain, and events and people change. Yes it’s great to have a plan, but it’s also so important to be open to change.
It’s very easy to become comfortable. Comfortable with our job, our home, our path in life. But what if we explored the possibility that there is more. More creativity, more health, more joy and happiness if we just stepped out of our comfort zone, or changed our perspective.
Most of us play small. We crave certainty. We want success, but we fear what it will bring to us. What if my book becomes a best seller and I have to tour the world? What if my art is recognised by a national gallery and included in their latest collection? What if I become wealthy, or successful and my friends and family judge me?
We fear our power, yet we fear criticism more. We may have a career that we love, but after a while it becomes unfulfilling. Yet we are scared of moving on, to something that is as yet, unknown.
We create a beautiful painting, yet fear showing others because we might be judged or criticised. Yet if we did, it might open up a whole new world of possibility. We may love writing poetry, but fear publishing it, in case it is rejected or laughed at.
One of my favourite quotes is by Marianne Williamson, where she says “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.”
So shine your light. Show the world your magnificence. Every one of us is unique and has gifts to offer to the world.
Your future is not defined – Be open to change. None of us knows what the future holds. Even a health condition has an unknown outcome that may change, or we can influence. However we need to be open to the unknown. We need to allow ourselves to be vulnerable and share of ourselves. We never know what we are capable of and generally, underestimate our abilities.
The future is undecided, but that’s what makes it exciting. There are so many possibilities out there for us to experience. Yes bad things happen and life can be hard, but it can also be an amazing, beautiful and wondrous place to be in.
So every now and again, have a look at your life. Is there more that you want? Is there more creativity for you to discover? Is there more joy, happiness and great health to be found? Are there things you want to achieve in this one, crazy, glorious life?
If the answer is Yes, then go out and grab them with both hands.
With love,
Judy xxx
