Spring is a time of new beginnings, a time to dream. A time of hope and growth. A time of change. Here in the Southern Hemisphere it is nearly Spring. The days are getting warmer and longer and the blossoms are out in their full glory. New life is arriving in the form of fresh green leaves on bare trees, flowers are bursting out of buds and nature is waking from her slumber.
It is also a great time to reflect on what fresh ideas and creations we can bring into our lives and what dreams we can fulfil. Winter is a time of hibernation, when life slows down. With Spring comes a new energy, a willingness to step outside, enjoy the warmer weather and start anew.
Maybe there is a new project that you have been wanting to pursue, but have been hesitant to begin. Maybe you have always desired to paint, or act, or write, or dance. Maybe you have been holding back from something that will fill you with joy, but fear has got in the way.
I, too have procrastinated on things I want to achieve. I have to step out of my comfort zone. I have to put myself ‘out there.’ I have to be more visible so people will find me. It’s very easy to play safe. It’s very easy to stay with the status quo. It feels comfortable and familiar.
But if we never take risks or embrace what is unfamiliar, we will never grow. I certainly don’t want to get to old age, thinking ‘What if?’
I am currently writing a new book and learning about pitching to publishers, as I would like to have the book traditionally published. Now there’s a way to pitch and a way not to pitch and it’s a steep learning curve. I know that I will have to embrace feeling really uncomfortable when I finally approach agents or publishers. But feeling uncomfortable is something that I know I will need to become familiar with, or else my book will never succeed.
How can you take steps to feel uncomfortable? How can you step into the unknown? Many of us won’t even try because it’s too hard or too scary. But for those of us who want an extraordinary life, a life of fulfilment and passion, it’s the only way forwards.
So do it slowly. Take baby steps if this feels easier, or huge leaps if you’re feeling confident. Just do it. Choose one thing and start taking action. Each little step, no matter how small, brings about change. Start that drawing, do that course you’ve been putting off, write that book. Just begin.
Spring is a time of new beginnings, a time to dream. What new beginnings can you bring into your life now? What challenges can you face and overcome? What dreams are you ready to follow?
I have been watching a show on Netflix called ‘The Law according to Lidia Poet,’ which is very loosely based on Italy’s first female lawyer. She had to overcome huge challenges to achieve her dreams of being accepted as a lawyer, within a male-dominated legal system. The closing line sums up perfectly what all of us who dare to dream, know.
“This story is dedicated to those who can imagine what does not yet exist and find the courage to turn it into reality.”
Perhaps this can be your story too, where you have a dream and find the courage to make that dream happen. May this Spring truly be a new beginning for you, where you embrace the uncomfortable, recognise that the impossible is possible and achieve all that your creative soul desires.
With love,
Judy xxx
