Do you listen to that Inner Voice when you are creating? Or do you ignore it and hope it goes away?

What voice am I talking about here? It’s that inner knowing, our gut feeling, our intuition that often speaks to us so strongly. It’s that guiding light that encourages us to try out new things. It inspires us to create a new piece of art, or write a new book, or travel, or change careers, or try out one of the million and one ideas that come to us.

We all have that inner voice, but so often we ignore it. We decide that it’s too hard or too scary or too challenging and we silence it. For who are we to be so successful or wealthy or talented? Our ‘ego’ voice always steps in.

Whenever we are asked to step out of our comfort zone, a little voice of fear quickly arrives. It challenges us and makes us question if that ‘thing’ we are after is really worth it. It asks us to look at all the difficulties that may arise. It presents obstacles that seem to just appear and confirm that the book, or painting, or holiday, or new job aren’t really what we wanted after all. They are not worth the effort required.

But if we recognise that egoic voice, that voice of fear, we can learn to ignore it. Yes it won’t give up and it will be persistent, but the very first time you take that step and follow your heart, that little voice will be silenced.

Do you listen to that inner voice when you are creating – the one of fear? Or do you listen instead to the guiding voice of your Intuition? I call mine ‘The Muse’ for she speaks to me of many wonderful ideas and creations. She usually comes to me in the middle of the night when I ask her gently to go away and return in the morning.

Sometimes she is so persistent that I have to get up and write down all my thoughts so that I will remember them when I awake. Other times, I hear her voice during meditation or quiet times in nature.

What does your inner voice say to you? Does it fill you with joy and wonderful ideas or does it fill you with fear and thoughts of ‘who me?’ Learn to discern which voice you are hearing and decide which one you will follow.

It will determine whether you live a safe life or one of adventure and creation. It isn’t easy to listen to our inner voice as it questions our motives, challenges us and sometimes scares the life out of us. However, if we are to live a happy, fulfilled and creative life it is so important to take heed.

I hope you get to listen too.

With love,

Judy xxx
